MONTEFIORE SCHOOL COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS

Generally, the less opportunity a student has to interact and learn with non-disabled peers, the more the placement is considered to be restricted. However, for specific areas of intensive training, it is appropriate to remove a child from the regular classroom. At Montefiore, the services our students receive depend on their individual needs. Our students are provided with supplementary aids and services necessary to their individual needs. Our students are provided with supplementary aids and services necessary to achieve educational foals if placed in a setting with non-disabled peers.

Least restrictive environment (LRE) means that a student who has a disability should have the opportunity to be educated with non-disabled peers, to the greatest extend appropriate. They should have access to the general education curriculum, extracurricular activities, or any other program that non-disabled peers would be able to access.

The staff at Montefiore is committed to developing its students to meet educational and career goals., despite the setting. For our teens, doing the right thing is sometimes difficult. Here, it means finishing homework instead of playing basketball; helping, instead of antagonizing; or completing an assignment instead of falling to distractions. Our students learn critical like skills that afford them opportunities to be productive citizens in our competitive society.

With students in mind, the team at Montefiore has worked to develop a reintegration plan for students who enter our doors and successfully complete our Behavior Management Program. Once students have developed the appropriate social/emotional skills necessary to excel in a less restrictive environment, they qualify to return to partnering area school.
